May 22, 2008 Europe trip

Melody and I left Fairbanks on Thursday afternoon and arrived in Frankfurt, Germany on Friday morning. We stayed at a NH Hotel chain that we have used on other trips. It is now a familiar place near the airport and we recouped our energy and took the shuttle to the Airport the next morning where the Train system has a station for easy connections.
This is the first time we used the Euro rail system. We chose a 4 country pass. BENELUX-Denmark-Germany-Sweden. We are allowed 8 rides during 3 Months.

It was a three hour trip from Frankfurt to Brussels. The ICE high speed train was smooth and easily zipped past traffic that paralleled us on the Autobahn.

We arrived around 10 am and found our NH hotel after an hour of exploring. That left us the rest of the day to walk, have fries visit the Grand Square and plan for tomorrow.

April post, busy month of spring planning

All,

April is a busy month for planning. Our reservations for the trip were secured in December for a 22 May departure from Fairbanks to Frankfurt. We will spend the night in a familiar NH Hotel chain and depart for Brussels the following day. After a 2 day stay we will travel to Amsterdam for sereral nights. Then on to Vanersborg, Sweden for the International Studebaker Meet. We will spend three nights at the Ronnums Herrgard Inn on Lake Varern. The meet includes a trip to local Museums and a Studebaker driving tour to the Saab Museum in Trollhattan.

We are still planning the second two weeks of the trip. They will include travel to Hamburg, Liepzig and Copenhagan.

We have a four country Eurorail pass and are excited about the adventure.
